Library News for January 30, 2012

Do you own a Nook ereader? The library will be offering a class on Wednesday, February 1, at 10 am, on how to use the device and how to download free ebooks from READS (the Regional E-book and Audiobook Download System).

Free aerobics classes continue at the library each Monday and Wednesday mornings at 8:00 am. If you would like to be a part of these classes, call the library at 968-3239 to register.

February is designated as the month to celebrate Black History. The library will once again this year have a very nice display of “Local African-Americans of Achievement.” The following people will be featured this year: Charlotte Hart Beard, Shelia J. Bomer, Reuben Glene Buck, Gloria Harmon Carver, Robert Carver, Janna Seay Gordon, Jerry Patrick Henry, Rubye Nell Broadnax Hill, Galen Myron Johnson, Keeambra Johnson, Rosalind Renee Johnson, Steve Allen Parker, Anthony (Tony) Lynn Robertson, Felecia Hart Robertson, Barbara Beasley Ross, Dorothy L. Johnson Sanders, Daniel Sears, Rhonda A. (McCorry) Smith, Zachary William Staten, Officer Tracye Monique Pearson Taylor, Tammy Parker-Tuggles, and Eula Werthing Whittaker. We would like to thank Mrs. Joy Johnson once again for the dedication she has shown and time she has invested in bringing this display to the community.

Preschool Story Time will meet on Monday, February 6, at 10 am.

Negro Spirituals will also be performed live at the library on Tuesday, February 7, from 12:00-2:00.

The Library Board will be meeting on Thursday, February 9, at 5:30, in the library.

The Library Book Club will meet on Monday, February 13, at 3:30, to discuss Room by Emma Donoghue. Please join them for some stimulating conversation.

Library News for January 23, 2012

Preschool Story Time will meet at 10 am on Monday, January 30.

AARP will once again be at the library providing free assistance with filling out federal income tax forms. Appointments are being taken now. They will be at the library on Thursdays. Call 968-3239 for an appointment.

The Henderson County Folk Festival will be giving away a very nice Valentine’s basket on February10, 2012. A donation of $1 to the Festival will give you one entry in the drawing. You may enter at the library.

Library News for January 16, 2012

Do you have a Kindle or are you thinking about getting one? The library will be having a free class on how to use the device and where to find and how to download free books. The class will be held on Wednesday, January 18, at 10:00 am. No pre-registration is required.

The Library Friends will be meeting on Thursday, January 19, at 5:00 pm.

Preschool Story Time will meet at 10 am on Monday, January 23. They will be discussing “snow.”

Would you like to attending knitting classes? We have a person who has volunteered to teach you how to knit. If you would be interested, please give us a call at 968-3239.

Library News for January 9, 2012

The Santa pictures are now ready to be picked up. They are our gift to you!

The library will be closed on January 16 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Library Friends will be meeting on January 19th at 5:00 pm. If you would like to do something special to help the community, come join them.  They could really use your help! 

A local couple has donated money for the library to start an ebook collection. When you visit the READS (Regional Ebook and Audiobook Download System) website, be sure and sign in with your library card first. That is the only way the books we have purchased will be included in the selection you see. The website is http://reads.lib.overdrive.com   If you need assistance, give us a call at 968-3239.

Free aerobic exercise classes are still being held at the library. If you would like to participate, give us a call at 968-3239. Although these classes are free, you will need to register in advance so that you can be contacted in case a class is cancelled.

The library’s new website is www.ehlibrary.com You may view our catalog at this site. Very soon, you will also be able to view your library account, renew books, and reserve books from the website.

The library is already making appointments for people who would like help filling out their federal income tax forms. AARP representatives will be at the library on Thursdays.  Call us at 968-3239 to make your appointment.

Library News for January 2, 2012

Free aerobic classes will be resuming next week on Monday and Wednesday mornings. These classes are held before the library opens. You must register in advance to attend.

Preschool Story Time will resume on January 9, 2012, at 10:00 am.  They will be talking about the new year.

The Library Book Club will be meeting at 3:30 pm on Monday, January 9. They will be discussing “The Next Always” by Nora Roberts. You are invited to participate!

Peggy Wentworth is teaching computer classes for the library. If you would like to be in one of the classes, give us a call.

Library News for December 19, 2012

Santa Claus is coming to the library! He will be here on Wednesday, December 21, at 10:00 am. Bring your little one and receive a free picture of him/her with Santa.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development is once again sending the Career Coach to the Library on December 22 from 10:00 am -2:00 pm. If you need help finding a job, come by and talk to these people.

The library will be closed the following times during the holidays: December 22 from 11:00 am -1:00 pm, all day on December 24 and 26, and all day December 31.

Library News for December 12, 2011

The Library Friends will be having their annual pot luck on Thursday evening, December 15, at 5:00 pm. Please feel free to join them as they celebrate another successful year. You may call the library at 968-3239 if you need more information.

Live Christmas music will fill the library on Friday, December 16, from 11:00 am through 1:30 pm. Local singers and musicians will be featured. The line is as follows: Bonnie Beecham at 11:00, Robert Taylor and Myra Jackson at 11:15, Sarah Taylor Clifford at 11:30, Cora Mackey at 11:45, Lori Simmons at 12:00, Sheryl Crownover at 12:15, Jennifer, Emma, and Powell Franklin at 12:30, Jill and Jim Oatsvall at 12:45, Stephanie Davis at 1:00, and Jeremy Beecham at 1:15.

Santa will be coming to the library on Wednesday, December 21, at 10:00 am. Bring the little one by for a visit.  Each child will receive one free picture of him/her with Santa.

Library News for December 5, 2011

Melonie Shelby will be leading another couponing session at the library on Tuesday, December 6, at 5 pm. Spread the word!

Preschool Story Time will be having their Christmas party on Monday, December 12, at 10 am.

The Library Friends will be having their annual pot luck on Thursday evening, December 15.  Please join this great group of people as they celebrate another great year. The Library Friends make a huge difference in what the library is able to purchase in the way of materials for patrons. They are in great need of new members who are able to help with their annual book sales and yard sales. If you would be able to do this, please contact the library at 968-3239 for more information.

The Library will be hosting live Christmas music in the library sung/played by local singers and musicians on Friday, December 16, from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm.

Library News for November 28, 2011

The Library Friends’ semi-annual used book sale is this week. Library Friends members may attend the members only sale on Wednesday. Beginning Thursday and continuing through Saturday, the sale is open to the public during the library’s operating hours: Thursday 9 to 6, Friday 9 to 5, and Saturday 9 to 3.

Preschool Story Time will meet on Monday, December 5, at 10 am. They will be celebrating Mickey Mouse’s birthday.

Our free aerobics classes are continuing on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8 am in the library’s community room.

Food for Fines continues through Wednesday, November 30. If you have outstanding fines, now is the time to have them forgiven by donating non-perishable food items.  These donations are going to Hope Ministries.

Library News for Week of November 21, 2011

“Food for Fines” continues at the library through November 30. If you owe outstanding fines, you may have them erased by bringing in non-perishable food items for people or animals.

The library will be closed Thursday, November 24th, through Saturday, November 26th, so our employees can celebrate Thanksgiving.

Preschool Story Time will be held on Monday, November 28th, at 10:00 am. Their topic will be  ”Thanksgiving.”

The Library Friends semi-annual used book sale will be held December 1-3 during library hours. A special “Members-Only” preview sale will be held on Wednesday, November 30, during the library’s operating hours.
