This past Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for the Henderson County Folk Festival that was held on Court Square in Lexington. There was an estimated attendance of over 2000 people. Youth and adults alike enjoyed the addition of folk games this year. The games included hoola hoop mania, passing an apple under your chin, watermelon seed-spitting contest, water balloon toss, three legged race, and jump rope contest. Different contests and drawings were held during the course of the day. Prizes were provided by ACE Hardware, Carnal-Roberts Agency, Cemars Biker Wear, Community South Bank, Creations Unlimited, Davis Dry Goods, Famous Chinese, Fashion Fair, First Bank, French & Company, Gift Garden, Leroy Somer, Lunch Box, Playback, Shell Station, Stewart’s Coffee Corner, and True Value. The Library Friends will be meeting Thursday, May 15, at 5 pm, at the Library.
Preschool Story time will be having their end of the year party at Lexington City Park on Tuesday, May 20, at 10 am.
The Library Book Club will be having a special guest at their meeting on Wednesday, May 21, at 1 pm. Author Rod Wallsmith will be talking about his book “Booze, Blood & Justice: A Southern Tale of Death, Decadence and Redemption.” Although a fictional book, it is based on an actual murder that occurred in Humboldt in 1970. Everyone is invited to attend.
Last, but not least, Library Staff would like to welcome a new addition to our staff, employee Jerome Azbell. Jerome is a 2002 graduate of Lexington High School and 2006 graduate of Union University.
