We are not having any special programs for teens this year. However, we are having a contest where youth may read for prizes. This promotion is for youth entering the 7th grade through 18 years old. Youth may check out books at the library and receive one entry for every book read. Prizes drawn for are as follows: I-pod, portable DVD player, and $50 cash. Each teen that fills out our teen survey will receive 3 free entries. The drawing for these prizes will be held on June 30 at 3 pm.
The Library Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, June 19, at 1 pm. They will be discussing Randy Pausch’s book, The Last Lecture. This book is the true story of Mr. Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, who was asked to give a lecture. He had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The lecture he gave was titled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, and of seizing every moment. The book, The Last Lecture, was born out of the actual lecture but includes many personal stories that were not included in the lecture. It is a short, easy read that you will find very inspiring. We also have the book on CD.
