The Library will be hosting a Community Disaster Preparedness Day on October 12, 2009. The focus will be on disaster types that are more common for our area: tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes. There will be special presentations by The Chasing4Life Educational Stormchase Team. The schedule for the day is as follows: At 10:00 AM, there will be a special session for Senior Citizens, age 60 and over. The first 50 seniors to arrive and stay for the program will receive a free emergency preparedness kit valued at $50. At 1:00 PM, there will be a special session for Emergency personnel and first responders. At 3:00 PM, there will be a special session for the general public. All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend. Drawings will be held throughout the day for free Emergency Preparedness Kits. You must come by to register, but you do not have to be present to win. There will be displays and handouts on emergency preparedness. If there are no emergencies requiring their services, we will have other emergency vehicles on hand also. This project has been funded in whole with Federal funds from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Contract No. NO1-LM-6-3502 with the University of Maryland Baltimore. If you have any questions about this event, give the library a call at 968-3239.
Mr. Myrlen Britt will be with us next week on Thursday, October 15, at 1:00 PM, for a book talk and book signing of his latest book, “Southern Fried and Delicious.” Many of you know Mr. Britt. He is originally from Henderson County and has many friends and relatives here still.
The Library Friends will also be meeting on Thursday, October 15, at 5:00 PM to discuss their fall activities. Please come to the meeting if you would like to help.
Preschool Story Time will be going on a field trip to Donald Sentry Farm on October 20. The cost is $6 per person; children under 2 get in free. All who plan to go need to bring their money by the library this week. There will be no story time on October 13 because of fall break in the school systems.
The Library will be hosting a “Showcase of Henderson County Artists” from October 21 through October 29. This will feature framed art including paintings, drawings, and special photography. If you are an artist and would like to participate, give the library a call at 968-3239.
