During the month of July, we are having our adult summer reading program titled “Water Your Mind: READ.” Adults may check out books from the library, read them, and receive entries for some great prizes which will be given away weekly. The prizes are as follows:  July 9, a $20 gift certificate to In His Hands; July 16, a $20 Wal-Mart gift-card; July 23, a $20 gift certificate to McDonald’s. The grand prize will be awarded on July 30, at 3:00 pm. It is 2 tickets to the “Music City Duck Tour” in Nashville, TN. This is an exciting adventure through the sights and sounds of Nashville and into the Cumberland River aboard a fully restored DUKW amphibious vehicle. Quoted from the web site, “You might think we call our tour a Duck tour because the vehicle has the ability to splash into the water but actually the name is a military acronym. It is actually a DUKW (sounds like Duck) vehicle. D stands for the date they were made, 1942; U stands for utility purpose; K for front wheel drive and W because there are two rear driving axles. These vehicles not only played a major role in D-Day and WW ll but also the Korean War.”

Between July 1 and July 9, you may complete the “Water Your Mind” Trivia Quiz to earn two extra entries for the prizes. Pick up your copy of the quiz at the library.

We also have some very interesting programming lined up for adults during the month. On July 13, at 5:00 pm, we will have a “Meet & Greet” for our Facebook fans. If you are one of the library’s Facebook fans or would like to become one, this meeting is for you. Fans will meet and talk about their favorite things to do on Facebook. Refreshments will be served. On July 20, at 5:00 pm, there will be a “Genealogy on the Internet” workshop. Many reliable resources are available to use online when conducting family research. At this session, local genealogists who volunteer at the library will share their favorite sites. On July 27, at 5:00 pm, there will be an “Introduction to Geocaching” session. Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use GPS coordinates to hide and seek containers (from many local locations to worldwide) with other participants in the activity. Jennifer and Powell Franklin will be presenting this session.

We also have two preschool summer programs scheduled in July. The first one will be on July 13, at 10:00 am. The topic will be “Splish Splash Summer: The Beach.” Our July 27th program at 10:00 am will be titled “High Seas Adventure: Boats.”
